In 1886, Albert Parsons and seven other anarchists were sentenced to death because of their role in the Haymarket Affair, a labor demonstration that turned violent. Students read six different sources that provide insight into what happened at Haymarket Square on the day of the riot, and the nature of Parson’s anarchistic beliefs. Students engage in a structured academic controversy in order to determine whether Parsons was a dangerous man.
