Historians read historical documents to figure out what happened in the past. But historical documents have limitations. They may present evidence that is inaccurate or incomplete. In this lesson, students consider the strengths and limitations of court records as historical evidence about enslavement in the 1700s in the Cape Colony, South Africa.
