Thomas Nast was one of the most influential political cartoonists in history. His work significantly impacted politics and public opinion in the second half of the nineteenth century. In this lesson, students examine two of Nast’s cartoons about the debate over Reconstruction and consider what political cartoons can tell us about the past.
